FOOT – CONGENITAL AND ACQUIRED DEFORMITIES

We perform corrective operations of congenital and acquired motor system disorders on adults and children.

Congenital abnormalities:

  • Hypoplasia (underdevelopment) and dislocation of the hip joint
  • Clubfoot (talipes equinovarus)
  • Flat foot
  • Deformities and contractures caused by Infantile Cerebral Palsy

The most frequent congenital abnormality in children is hypoplasia of the hip joint. At present, this abnormality is rarely qualified for operative treatment since advanced ultrasonographic techniques enable early detection of the disorder. Although talipes equinovarus (clubfoot) occurs less frequently, it usually requires operative treatment. If conservative therapy of clubfoot does not bring positive effects, it is necessary for the patient to see an orthopaedist. In our hospital, we also provide operative treatment of both deformities and contractures of the joint caused by Infantile Cerebral Palsy.

Acquired abnormalities:

  • Bunion (hallux valgus)
  • Transverse flat foot
  • Hammer toes
  • Heel spurs (Calcanean spurs)
  • Exostoses
  • Calluses
  • Articular cysts

In the case of the acquired foot deformities, such as hallux valgus, transverse flatfeet and  hammer toes, the patient  needs to stay in hospital for several days. Such deformities as calcanean spurs, exostoses, calluses or articular cysts (ganglions) are performed as same-day surgery and further treatment is continued in the orthopaedic outpatient clinic. The patient is qualified for the surgery after being examined by an orthopedist and an anesthesiologist.
